Late Fall Gummy Stripers
: This trip in
late fall was done with one purpose in mind, to catch fish....on light tackle, not how big
or how many...just to bend the rod and feel the line come tight one last time before the
2003 season ended earlier than usual due to winds and weather. We instruct on how to catch
good numbers of stripers during the migration using lead heads and swim
baits...a.k.a...rubber shads. The shad of choice for The Fishing Line has always been the
Gummy Shad by FJ Neil Co., a Long Island based tackle manufacturer. My guest is Bob Lowe,
operations manager for FJ Neil and we catch plenty of fish in very sloppy conditions. The
key though is the extensive segment on shad baits, how to rig them, choosing the right
one, what the difference between brands is, what other "baits" you should
include in your fall arsenal and we speak about boat control and the stupidity we see on
the water from careless anglers. We cover the tackle requirements for this sort of fishing
action as always give a well rounded informative
show with plenty of action.

Build Your Own Fishing Rod/Part 1
: In this our 10th
season on the air, we are going back to our roots so to speak and going with what got us
to where we are. Sure we can catch bass, blues and fluke every week...but over the years
it was the in studio shows on rigging, tackle and building rods that you folks loved and
have been asking for now over the last few seasons. So here you are...Part One of
How To Build Your Own Rod. In this episode we work with one of the masters of the
craft...Hank Altenkirch
to build a perfect back bay rod for plugging bass, clam bellying, flounder, ocean fluke
and more! Hank has been building rods on his own for 40 years and before that with his dad
Micky Altenkirch in his
shop in Hampton Bays on the Shinnecock Canal. In Part 1...we take you though the steps of
selecting the right blank, finding the "spline", shortening the rod and
building it up with grips, reels seats and cleaning it as we get ready to
wrap the guides and varnish in Part Two next week. We cover al the basics
and some tips for you experienced rod builders

folks loved so much....and have been asking for over the last few seasons. So here you

master builder Hank
Altenkirch to take you through the final process of realizing your own rod. We work
with Hank's daughter Janice to wrap the guides and then Hank takes us into the Varnishing
Room to complete the process as we finish with our own creation to do some fishing in the
bays for bass. We also take a look back through history with the Altenkirch family and take
a look at the shop today. We cover all the basics and some tips for you experienced rod
builders and we continue our new formatted Boating Tip of the Week.
There was so much footage for this show...it killed me to

Ocean Flounder Fishing New Jersey
: This
2004 flounder season will undoubtedly go down as one of the best flounder fishing seasons
in the last decade. "Not where I live!" you may say...and that may be true...but
when it comes to flounder fishing it's not where you live that counts...you have to go to
the fish. When the Raritan Bay action for winter flatties is on fire or winding down...the
ocean flounder fishing off the Sandy Hook shore in just 15 to 20 foot of water can be on
fire...as it was this season. Some years it's Romer Shoals...others it is Jersey and this
was one of those years where anglers were limiting out on a daily basis on the boats that
picked up on the pattern and knew where the fish set up this spring. Capt. Bob Wiegand of
the Flamingo III out of Gerritsen Beach, NY did and he fished for three weeks or more
limiting out his fares nearly every day and sometimes no matter how many people were on
board. In this episode we explain why shell baits work better than others, "flounder
twitching," following the fish, we cover all the basics and some tips for you
experienced flattie fanatics and we take a look back at the Flamingo tradition in
Brooklyn. We'll give you the scoop on rigging, tides and current in flounder fishing, our
tackle choices were small to medium baitcasting reels
and the secret to keeping a mussel on the hook and so much more. This
is sure to be a viewing favorite for years to come!

Pitching PA Mountain Smallmouth

:
This freshwater episode was filmed at Lake Wallenpaupack,
PA in the Pocono Mountains about 2-1/2 hours from Long Island. In this show we're pitching
plastic tubes to pre and post spawn smallmouth around rock croppings, rocky drop off's
bordering new emerging weedlines and sandy flats along with some dock lines as
well. My guests are Joe Farry
along with expert, local guide and tournament angler Ray Cichocki of Ray's
Guide Service (570-654-9555). We'll show you the newest plastics, speak with Ray about lake conditions and how dropping or
rising water conditions effect smallies here since this is a man made lake for generating
electricity, talk about how plastics how revolutionized fishing, go over our
surprising tackle choices of light spinning reels and light line for this fishing and of course lots of great fishing and
skyrocketing jumps by the stars of this show...the smallmouth bass of Lake Wallenpaupack.
We stayed at the very comfortable and lovely Ehrhardt's Waterfront Resort on the lake where the food and
hospitality was great! This is sure to be a viewing favorite for years to
come for sweetwater enthusiasts and of course our new formatted Boating Tip of the Week!

Fisheries Management Truths Part 1:
This could be one of the most
important
shows we've ever done. I'm sure there will be many who wondered
where the action was, and in this episode and next week's it was in the
council rooms in Wilmington, DE at the Sheraton Hotel. These meetings are
where you and I are being screwed by the
Mid-Atlantic Fisheries
Management Council (MAFMC) and the
Atlantic States Marine
Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) and these
are the bodies responsible for the mess we're in with fluke and porgies this
year. In this episode we introduce the basic players, the executive
directors for each board, some sitting members for both the commercial and
recreational sides, find out what their intentions are and introduce the
Conservation Equivalency. Sound confusing?....It is and this is why we did a
show of this magnitude for you to help you all understand what the hell
really goes on inside these rooms. Wait till you see what's on tap for next
week in Part 2.

Fisheries Management Truths Part 2:
In Part 2 of what could be
one of the
most important shows we've ever done, we get into the heart of the matter.
The inequitable splits of the fishery and the Total Allowable landings
(TAL's) in which the commercial fishery gets 60% of the fluke and 78% of the
porgy fishery! How did this happen? Because we do not go to these meetings
as a block of voting recreational anglers to stop it and this is why I did
these shows. In part 2 we get into how Conservation Equivalency can bite a
state in the ass, this splitting of the quotas, speak wit the RFA on how to
rectify the situation, and then get into the real crux of the
argument....faulty and just plain wrong information gathering by the
National Marine Fisheries service (NMFS) and show how this is causing chaos
and financial ruin for many.

Summer Shark Fishing:
This week's show takes
us
on an exciting adventure this week in search of big sharks off
Long Island's South Shore in the heat of July! We fished 35 miles south of Jones Inlet and
in this episode instruct viewers on the best
tackle choices, rigging mackerel baits, haywire twists,
and chumming techniques and taught you how to catch big sharks.
We also show the proper way to adjust the drags on big
reels so you are only applying 33%
of the line's pound test for tournament fishing and go over how the big reels work and how to properly apply pressure to
bring BIG sharks to the boat quickly...within minutes and without trying to
muscle them or break your back. All this with the weekly
Boating Tip of the Week of the Week. A great action video as we
landed three blue sharks to 250 pounds on 50 weight stand up tackle.

Connecticut River Stripers
:
This episode was filmed in Mid June on the Connecticut River with Pradco rep,
Capt. Eric Matland. We launched right under the
I-95 Bridge in Old Saybrook, CT
and in this show we're
tossing 7-inch plastics
to produce explosive
top water strikes on bass to 20 pounds
on medium size spinning reels.
Light line
and soft plastics produced
these
explosive strikes in
just 3 foot of water on the mid river reefs and
shoals
that pop up out of nowhere
just a mile or so from the mouth of the
CT
river
where it empties
into Long
Island Sound. Just terrific fishing
and easy enough for anyone to do from cartoppers to Cabo owners! Great state
facilities here for easy access to this stretch of the river for all anglers
in the metropolitan to enjoy! (You can also run 10 miles north for great
northern pike fishing!). There was so much footage for
this show...it killed me to have to take it out...so we are including it all
in the home release version for sale. You get a 40 minute video when you
purchase this one including scenes not included, captain interview, extended
versions of the rigging and how to work the bait segments and much more.

Drop-Shotting NJ Largemouths:
This freshwater episode was
filmed at Lake
Hopatcong, NJ in mid May
about 1-1/2 hours from Long Island. In this show we're drop-shotting...an
awesome way to present plastic baits...in one place
for freshwater bass. My guest is Skip Lerman...a winning tourney pro
from this region and we use light spinning reels to catch Jersey largemouths'
using the
plastics in shallow water. The big key in this
technique is the rig we used. The components include specially designed
Drop Shot hooks and
the other main component is the specialty
drop shot weights that are made of tungsten and unlike lead
are environmentally safe to water fowl.
We go over our tackle choices of
light spinning reels, rods and
6 or 8-pound test
line for this fishing and of course
great action on largemouth bass and many other species
before a late spring
thunderstorm chases us off the water with thunder, lightening and gusty winds blow the roof off a house on film behind us!
There was so much footage for this show...it killed me to have to take it
out...so we are including it all in the home release version for sale
including an interview with Tony Going who is president of the
NJ Bass Federation.
Tony did us a big favor in running he camera boat this trip You can see and
learn more about the NJ
Bass Federation but clicking on their name and going to their site. You
get a 40 minute video when you purchase this one including scenes not
